TERRY BROOKS--Legends of Shannara, The Measure of the Magic

On August 25, 2011,Terry Brooks launched his latest novel from the Powell's at Cedars Crossing in Beaverton, Oregon. He is celebrating 34 years of his writing career. I've never had the pleasure of meeting him before. He was fun, funny and had the best mix of reading, Q & A, jokes and book signing. This is exactly the kind of book signing I like to go to. I will certainly make the time to see him next year when he lauches his next book.

When asked what authors he likes to read, he mentioned Brent Weeks. Surprise! Brent and his wife were there too. It was a double author signing for me. One of my students introduced me to Brent's series, The Night Angel Trilogy. I enjoyed meeting him too. Brent is a former English teacher living the writing dream. He was very open and easy to talk to. According to his book jacket, Brent Weeks has "over one million copies in print
and has become one the fastest selling new fantasy author of all time." Now I can say I've met him. :)
It was a good day to OBSERVE AUTHORS.

LISA MANGUM--Hourglass Doorway Trilogy

Meet author Lisa Mangum (Center).

Also Meet Raya (right)-- She's my partner in a lot of adventures. We always have a really good time. (You will meet her more in other posts.) Since I'm just starting this blog now, I'll weave in the current author meetings with past author meetings.

On July 1, 2011 we drove to Bellevue, Washington to meet Lisa Mangum. We arrived 2 hours early not knowing exactly what kind of crowd there would be. (We wanted to get a good spot in line.) We arrived at Deseret Book and they didn't seem to know there was an author signing happening that day at 4:00 pm. There were no signs and no area prepared. You could say we were the first to arrive. At about 3:00 pm they set up the table. Raya and I passed the time taking photos around the store and even taking a turn in the author's chair. (Some day it'll be me on book tour.)

Lisa was delightful! I'm so happy I met her. She was promoting her last installment of the Hourglass Door Trilogy--The Forgotten Locket. Since there wasn't a large crowd we were able to chat with Lisa as long as we wanted. She was warm and fun--someone I could be friends with. Her husband stepped in as photographer to take the group pictures of us. She was such a good sport to take as many as we wanted so we could get a great shot.

Please, leave a comment. I'd like to know you were here. :)

Welcome to Observing Authors

It's been a hobby of mine for a few years now to meet authors and collect signed books.

It all started when my good "friend" Oprah showed me her custom designed library. I'd love an Oprah library. Here's the catch. I don't have Oprah $$$. I also don't have Oprah staff, so Me and my friends go to author signings and collect books and stories.

Maybe one day I'll have a library. For now I have a book shelf. And that will have to do. :)
